There was a time when Mopar A-body cars were everywhere in America. From practical Valiants and Darts to sporty Dusters and Demons, these compact Plymouth and Dodge models had broad appeal. Among the most elegant were the two-door hardtops—the Dodge Dart Swinger and its Plymouth sibling, the Scamp. This 1973 Plymouth Scamp represents an interesting chapter in that history. The Scamp combined Plymouth's distinctive front-end styling with the body shell and longer 111-inch wheelbase of the Dodge Dart Swinger. Three inches longer than standard Valiant sedans and Dusters, the Scamp offered additional cabin space while retaining the sporty proportions of a compact two-door hardtop. The 1973 model year brought distinctive styling updates, including the revised V-shaped grille, contoured hood, matching front bumper, ventless door glass, and new big-bolt-pattern wheels shared with larger B- and E-body Mopars. These details gave the Scamp a unique identity within the A-body family. This particular example shows 27,200 actual miles and wears an attractive brown exterior with nice paint. A recent clear coat adds depth to the finish, while a rear Bumble Bee style black stripe provides a subtle performance-inspired touch. The interior features a tan vinyl and cloth combination with bucket seats, along with a floor-mounted B&M shifter. The car rides on 15-inch factory wheels with dog-dish hubcaps, wrapped in Forceum 225/60R15 tires, and features a 2.76 rear-end ratio. Originally a V6 car, it has since been fitted with a 340 HP V8 and 727 automatic transmission—a tasteful addition that gives the Scamp some extra personality while leaving its overall appearance and character remarkably stock. Recent updates include a new power steering pump, positive and negative battery cables, windshield washer bottle and pump, and wiper blades. What makes this Scamp especially appealing is its combination of low actual mileage, distinctive A-body heritage, elegant hardtop styling, and understated presentation. The Scamp was never as common as some of its Valiant or Duster relatives, and its unique Dart Swinger-based body and longer wheelbase gave it a character all its own. This is a classic Mopar that offers both history and personality without trying too hard to be something it isn't. It's a Scamp—and that's precisely what makes it special.
