Originally birthed out of competition, the Chevrolet El Camino became one of the most iconic, distinctive, and revered cars in American automotive history. Born in 1959 to compete with the wildly popular Ford Ranchero, Chevrolet introduced its own version of the dual-purpose vehicle. With the heart of a car and the mentality of a truck, the El Camino rolled onto the showroom floor for the first time. Originally designed as a lateral descendent of the Impala, the El Camino swiftly evolved to share resemblance with the Chevelle when reintroduced in 1964. The Chevelle platform was excitedly more admired than its predecessor and would shape the El Camino for 3 generations of the car and decades of production. After government regulations thwarted the Muscle car era, the El Camino would again progress to more mild engine options and a fresh design in the late 1970’s. The Chevelle line had halted, and the El Camino was in need of a contemporary guise to move into the next decade. In 1978, the El Camino would progress into its 5th generation and take shape from Monte Carlo and Malibu. A more era acceptable look and many new features would breathe fresh life into the already proven nameplate. This 1978 Chevrolet El Camino is a beautiful example of that 5th generation rebirth. This car has indescribable brilliance exhibiting a shimmering deep blue paint, aluminum American Racing Wheels, and a powder coated frame following a recent frame off restoration. This El Camino displays boundless might and performance as well. It is powered by a 400 small block engine inundated with all the goodies and showing 2,171 miles on the odometer. The engine is snuggled up to an automatic 350-turbo transmission, rebuilt with a 3200-stall convertor, and connected to a 3.73 gear, 10-bolt rear end. An aluminum radiator with electric fan completes the well-maintained engine compartment. Inside the car, the bucket seats are covered in an agreeable two-toned grey cloth that has been well cared for. Other additional interior enhancements include a Pioneer Am/Fm/CD Radio, Sunpro Tachometer, aftermarket gauges in a fit console, and a racing style steering wheel. From front to back and top to bottom, this timeless car is eye-catching and ready for decades of enjoyment. Arguably one of the most original and atypical cars in automotive antiquity, the El Camino will live on forever in the minds of car enthusiasts everywhere. This car represents the final chapter in that long history, and characterizes perfectly why the El Camino was so unique and extraordinary. Now this timeless car just needs a new driver and El Camino, or as translated, the road.
