Growing up we all fantasized of racing in the Indianapolis 500. Visualizing ourselves competing side by side with Indy legends such as Foyt, Andretti, and Unser. Speeding past the pagoda, taking the checkers at the most infamous, hallowed, and iconic racetrack in the entire world. You envision yourself drinking the milk standing on years of history and yards of bricks. While that is assuredly only a dream for the vast majority of us, this car will bring you as very close to that reality. I now present you, the one of a kind, 1978 Chevrolet 62nd Annual Indianapolis 500 Pace Car. This Immaculate Corvette is as original as they come. Decorated in all the splendor of the Indy 500, this car is just like the one that paced the field on May 28, 1978. During that historical day, a car, just like this car lead the star-studded field to green, paced the drivers for 6 caution flags and 23 laps, as Al Unser dominated and won his third Borg-Warner Trophy. The exterior displays near faultless paint, with black covering the upper half and separated from the brilliant silver that adorns the bottom section of the car by a thin red pinstripe. Intensifying this already exquisite car in the Indianapolis 500 Official Pace Car Logo proudly displayed on each door. The OEM chrome wheels are hugged by P255/60/R15 Goodyear GT tires. Under the hood it has the stock 350 L-82 Corvette engine showing 2,386 original miles connected to a floor shift automatic transmission. Luxuries abound inside this T-top with silky silver leather covering the seats, tilt wheel, power windows, and AM/FM/8 Track. This car is all original with documentation of its Indianapolis history. The only amendments to its initial state are the all new brake calibers and a power antenna that has been repaired to original. Not only is this car a superlative example of a like new stock 78’ Corvette, It’s an authentic piece of racing history. So settle into the seat, turn over the motor, and gaze into the rearview mirror. Maybe you will even see Unser behind you.
